TechLab

A garage that grows into a plant. Recipes here are reasoned out, not guessed: if you know a brick is moulded before it is fired and tungsten isn't cast, you already know how to play.

Download from RuStorePre-order is open. Other stores to be announced

The whole first era is free. After that one purchase, no subscriptions and not a single ad.

The workshop at the start: shelf, machines and the first goal

Three things that set the game apart

The recipe follows from common sense, the physics is real, and nobody tugs at your sleeve.

The mould decides

You dig some clay, fit the press with a brick mould and push. On the bench sits a green brick: before the kiln it is just shaped clay. Fire it and the shape is final, the only way back is through the crusher.

The same clay in a vessel mould becomes pottery; in an insulator mould, an insulator. One material, one machine, three things.

Physics gives no discounts

Sintered parts can't be reshaped. There's no aluminium without electrolysis: bauxite goes into an alkaline autoclave first, then the alumina into a molten bath. And a magnet dropped into a crucible stops being a magnet above the Curie point.

WINT will carry it gently to the Museum of Rejects and say something comforting. There are twelve exhibits.

No alarm clock required

Automatons keep working while you're away and stop once they've hit their quota. No timers that rush you, and no way to buy progress with money.

MMX Studio has principles we don't cross. This is one of them, and it is checked by tests rather than promised in a description.

The workshop grows with you

Science teaches new operations; power comes from a megaproject you assemble yourself. That is why scale cannot be bought - only built.

Garage

I

The kiln, the press and the bench are here from the first minute, and that is where everything starts. Fit a mould, load a material, push. The machine thinks in seconds; you think about what to fit next.

Everything comes down to how fast the machine turns.

Shop floor

II

A chain you discovered yourself can be built into a shop floor that runs it in one pass. Discovery is not devalued by automation, it is rewarded by it.

From this day the bench is called an assembly area: a machine is an operation, not a piece of furniture.

You run out of shelf space and of tooling for every machine.

Plant

III

This is where everything that needs real power lives. Machines give way to lines, and throughput is counted per minute rather than per pass.

The soldering iron grows into an assembly line for electronics, the assembly area into an assembly line.

There is always slightly less power than you would like.

WINT is built from rejects

The helper robot the previous Boss left behind

WINT is built from rejects

A toaster for a body, a lens for an eye, a spring for an antenna, a vacuum-cleaner wheel to get around, and a heating coil glowing warm in his chest. His memory sits on a defective chip, so he remembers recipes vaguely, in fragments.

  • toaster body
  • lens eye
  • spring antenna
  • vacuum-cleaner wheel
  • heater coil

He never jokes at your expense. At himself and at rejects - constantly, but fondly: he is one of them. He calls you Master, and speaks of the Boss warmly and mysteriously.

A reject! Your first reject! Don't toss it - museum shelf. Us defective ones stick together.
Ooh, a mistake! Excellent. The Boss said: those who make no rejects make nothing at all.

Legends come out of rejects - that is what he always wanted to believe.

Stuck? Ask WINT

  1. 1

    You ask inside the game

The «Ask WINT» button sits right where you got stuck. Nothing to type, nowhere to sign in.

  2. 2

    WINT builds a link

The link carries exactly your stage: what is researched, what is built, how far the scale has grown. There is nothing personal in it.

  3. 3

    The handbook opens without spoilers

It shows what you can do now and what the next step opens. It will not draw the road to a distant item: discovering a recipe is what the game is for.

The handbook can be opened without that link, but then it shows the whole reference at once, and spoilers are easy to catch. The page warns about this on the way in.
